The Artist
Through her art, Barbara invites viewers to see Jerusalem and Israel not just as a place of historical interest, but as a living, breathing reflection of resilience, faith, light, and hope.
Hines is a German born painter whose large scale paintings of Jerusalem and the Judean hills capture the beauty of the land and the spiritual depth it holds. The daughter of Holocaust survivors, Barbara was raised in Australia without knowledge of her Jewish roots: a heritage revealed later in life.
That discovery transformed her art-turning her focus toward Israel, the Torah and stories that shape Jewish identity.
Hines paints with a unique sensitivity to light, color, and emotion. With her Jerusalem paintings, Hines emerges as a poetic imagist of unusual intensity. The overwhelming content is one of ambiguity, mystery, and spirituality. Her paintings evoke both the physical and spiritual essence of Jerusalem—its golden glow, its timeless stone, its layers of history and hope. As she describes it, “Jerusalem is the city of my heart and of my heritage.”
Hines’s work has been exhibited in galleries, group shows, and solo exhibitions around the world.
